Scriven is Player of the Year
Sun May 11 2008, 13:40
Hawks goal keeper Kevin Scriven swept the boards at last night’s end of season awards night. A packed clubhouse witnessed HawkSupport’s final event of the season, bringing together the First, Ladies and Academy sides to celebrate another immensely successful season for all three sides.
Scriven lifted the Players’ Player of the Season and the Supporters’ Player of the Season awards, received in a typically bashful style amid cheers of support from fans, players, and board members. Up and coming star Alex Baldacchino scooped the Academy’s Player of the Season award, while Jodie Prince and Chantelle Hedge shared the same accolade for the women.

Zoo readers find Hawks funny

Hawks manager Shaun Gale received a surprise in the week when he learned that Zoo Magazine had awarded the Hawks with the accolade of ‘Football’s Funniest Moment of the Season 2007/08’. The popular lads’ mag will feature a supplement on this year’s football in an uncoming issue, featuring awards voted on by readers, and the Hawks going up 2-1 against Liverpool in the FA Cup Fourth Round came top in the funniest moment category.

Gale signs Simpemba
Thu May 8 2008, 10:27
Shaun Gale’s first summer signing has come in the form of Lewes defender Ian Simpemba. Formerly with Wycombe Wanderers and Crawley Town, Dublin born Simpemba has been integral to Lewes’s promotion push this season and has amassed 88 appearances since joining the Rooks two seasons ago.
His three year stint with Wycombe started in 2001 as a trainee, where he made 20 first team appearances and enjoyed two loan spells at Woking before signing for Crawley Town in July 2004 as the side started life in the Conference National. Two years and 66 appearances later, he moved to Lewes via a short loan spell at Aldershot Town.

Late Henry goal sees Hawks finish seventh
Sat Apr 26 2008, 19:35
Havant and Waterlooville’s season ended with a quiet 1-0 victory against Welling United at Westleigh Park this afternoon, ultimately leaving the side three points short of a playoff place.
With nothing to play for, both sides started in an ambivalent mood, and the game only came to life eight minutes from the end when Rocky Baptiste saw a penalty saved after Charlie Henry was brought down in the six yard box by Callum Crawley. Undaunted, Henry streaked forward from the midfield just sixty seconds later and rifled home a low shot that beat keeper Jamie Turner to the bottom corner.

United ensure no playoffs for Hawks
Sat Apr 19 2008, 18:36
Maidenhead United’s three unanswered goals consigned the Hawks to another season in the Blue Square South this afternoon, while ensuring their own safety from relegation in the process. The visitors romped into the lead as early as the ninth minute when Lee Newman’s close range finish cancelled out keeper Kevin Scriven’s initial dramatic block from a shot by Carl Wilson-Denis.
Former Hawk Wilson-Denis added to United’s tally 15 minutes later when he bagged a second with a low drive, and the Hawks misery was completed at the 70 minute mark when Manny Williams’s narrow angled effort deflected in off hapless defender Paul Watson.

Awards night 10th May + Nominations
Sat Apr 19 2008, 11:40
This year’s end of season awards night is set to take place on Saturday May 10th in the clubhouse at Westleigh Park. The evening will feature the usual array of awards covering the First, Ladies and Academy sides, a review of the year, a buffet, and a disco to finish. The event, organised by HawkSupport in conjunction with the club, is open to anyone to attend, although as places are limited there is a maximum of two tickets per person. They cost £5 each, and will be available from the office by the club shop today and next Saturday before matches.
The presentation night itself needs Hawks fans to vote for the various awards being given. To help clarify this there will be three different colours of voting slip at the HawkSupport table at today’s and next week’s games, or in the office if wet. They are as follows:
Player of the Month April; the usual monthly award open to HawkSupport members, is on yellow paper. The Player of the Season vote, open to all fans, needs a top three for the season and is on white paper. In addition to this, HawkSupport members are also being asked to think of their ‘champagne moment’ for the season; the single most memorable or important moment of the season, and the player or person most associated with that. Nominations for the champagne moment award go on the blue slips.
Any of the above votes can also be cast by personal message to thimble via the message boards, or by email to the website (link below left). Remember, this is your chance to have a say in who should be recognised as part of this historic season, and every vote will be appreciated.
